Tune up for weather broadcasts on HF Wiluna

Weather updates are vital when you’re out on the water—and the Bureau of Meteorology is improving HF marine radio services to ensure weather information is available to all boaters.

On 22 January 2014, we're improving the HF Wiluna service, and weather broadcasts for Western Australian waters will be divided into southern and northern. Changing the HF Wiluna weather information broadcast schedule will ensure that detailed forecasts and the latest wind and weather observations are available to boaters whilst on the water.

With more accurate and detailed weather forecasts now available from our website, we're ensuring that marine radio services provide boaters with relevant weather safety information during their journeys.

Southern waters of Western Australia

The southern Western Australia broadcast will cover the area from North West Cape to Eucla. It will be broadcast at the same time slot as the existing Western Australia broadcast slots of: 0030, 0430, 0830, 1230, 1630, and 2030 WST.

Northern waters of Western Australia and Northern Territory

Broadcasts for northern Western Australia and the Northern Territory will now be combined to service these high traffic shipping areas.

Weather information for areas east of North West Cape and including all Northern Territory waters will be available at 0330, 0730, 1130, 1530, 1930 and 2330 WST, or 0100, 0500, 0900, 1300, 1700 and 2100 CST.

South Australia

Boaters in South Australia will now have dedicated weather information broadcasts on the same time schedule, every four hours at 0300, 0700, 1100, 1500, 1900 and 2300 CST.

Broadcast schedules for Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania will remain the same.
