SINGAPORE CONFIRMS ITS THIRD COLLISION IN TWO WEEKS

A third collision has been reported off Singapore in two weeks, after the Liberia-flagged containership Hammonia Thracium and Panama-flagged chemical tanker Zoey collided about 10 km south of Singapore Island.

 

Hammonia Thracium, with capacity of 2,959 teu, reported that its bunker tank had been ruptured, resulting in a spill of about 80 tonnes of fuel.

 

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority said it dispatched four tugs and sent oil-spill response companies to the scene. The incident occurred at 1535 hrs local time on Monday. The MPA said it had alerted Zoey that Hammonia Thracium was crossing its route.

 

Hammonia Thracium was built in 1997 at South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and is operated by Hammonia Reederei of Hamburg, Germany.

 

The 12,124 dwt chemical tanker Zoey was delivered from Asakawa Shipbuilding in Imbari, Japan, in 2011 and is operated by Koyo Kaiun Tokyo.

 

On January 30, an NYK containership collided with the barge AZ Fuzhou at East Keppel Fairway about 2.4 miles south of Marina South.

 

This followed the collision on January 29 between Hong Kong-flagged chemical tanker Lime Galaxy and China-flagged containership Fei He in the Strait of Singapore. No one was hurt in that collision.
